Doctor Who LaB, Episode 9: Classic Who – The Daleks

File Oct 26, 12 07 02 AM

What’s Doctor Who without Daleks? We’ll never know, thanks to the second story aired on the show in 1963 and early 1964. The Doctor, Ian, Barbara, and Susan land on Skaro and meet the most evil race to ever roam the galaxy — before they ever left their planet.

We take a quick trip to the early ’60s and meet the Daleks for the very first time. Seven episodes made up the story:

  1. The Dead Planet
  2. The Survivors
  3. The Escape
  4. The Ambush
  5. The Expedition
  6. The Ordeal
  7. The Rescue

This is the storyline that saved the show from an early cancelation. We look to see what made it special. Here’s a hint: Daleks. Nothing more needs to be said.

Own “The Daleks” as part of Doctor Who: The Beginning from Amazon.

I Smell Fall In The Air

Tuesday I posted a pic or two from our last beach trip of the year. It was fun to see the grandchildren play in the water and sand. Now, with summer drawing to a close, we feel a hint of autumn in the air.

The pumpkin patches are  open, offering the best pumpkins for all your baking and decorating needs.  Social media is flooded with seasonal recipes so how could I resist? You just can’t go wrong with pumpkin and cream cheese.

Lovers: Forrest & Jenny

couples_ForrestJenny

Forrest: Mama’s gonna worry about me.

Jenny: Just stay a little longer.

Forrest: Okay, Jenny. I’ll stay.

The 1994 film Forrest Gump tells of the life of a young man from Alabama who found himself in the midst of many of the major events of the 20th century. Based on Winston Groom’s 1986 book, most of the film is told in flashbacks while Forrest is waiting for the bus to take him to visit his life-long love, Jenny.

The story leading up to their tragic final meeting is a favorite story for many. What do you think about the love of Forrest and Jenny?

Doctor Who LaB, Episode 8: The Woman Who Lived

DWNs9e6

Tale as old at time…

It’s the Doctor and Clara in the TARDIS, but without Clara or the TARDIS for the most part.

We look at the latest episode of Doctor Who: The Woman Who Lived. It’s 800 years after the Doctor brings Ashildr back to life, making her immortal. What could possibly go wrong?

Bitter sweet and strange
Finding you can change
Learning you were wrong
Certain as the sun
Rising in the east
Tale as old as time…

Is There A Doctor In The House?

There are many articles available hailing the benefits of lowering one’s blood pressure by watching the activity in an aquarium.

Now, while I haven’t tested the theory by taking my own blood pressure before or after watching the fish and other creatures in my aquarium, I can say for sure it is a calm and peaceful experience to sit and watch them go about their business feeding and swimming.

Here’s a pic of one of the little fellows in my tank, taken during one of his quiet moments. He and his buddies certainly make me laugh.
